Alright so how to find clients as a photographer and make some money? Well that is actually a common question that I hear a lot and thats why I have collected some of my ways how I got started. And maybe this can help you to get started as well.

Create A Portfolio
So the first thing that I highly recommend to do is to create a Portfolio. Because if people don’t know that you are photographer and if people don’t know if your work is good no one will hire.

So thats why you need to create a Portfolio that people can check out to see if your work is good or not.And the easiest way to create such a Portfolio is Social Media.

If you do photography Instagram as an example is a perfect place that you can use to share your work. Simply upload your best photos on a daily base to Instagram and use that as your portfolio. You can even share the same photos to facebook too with just one click so definitely use that as an advantage here.

And this is actually great because people can find your work right there and if they like your work they can write you a message and hire you. On top I highly recommend to include an E-Mail address or website to make it easier for people to get in contact with you.

Share Your Portfolio
But just to create this portfolio doesn’t mean that this will generate money. So that’s why you need to share your work too. That doesn’t mean you should use paid ads or anything like that. I mean you can do that but what I highly recommend is to send this Portfolio to your family, friends and followers on social media and let them know that they can hire you if they need some photos.
This actually is one of the best ways to get started because you don’t have to pay money for that. You just need to put in the work and on top you have a nice portfolio page to let people know that your work is good.

Work for free
The next tip to find clients and make some money is to work for free. And now you might say “Wait I want to earn money why should I work for free?”. Well in this case you use this “Free Work” as an advertisement. If you let a company or friend know that you work for free this time it is more likely that they will say yes. And if your work is really good it is even more likely that they will hire and pay you next time.

And on top it is way more likely that they will recommend your work if your work is really good and that makes it possible to let more and more people know that they can hire you to get great photos. So especially if you are just starting out this is one of the best options that you can use to find new clients. Because it’s easy to get started and if your work is actually really good this is a perfect way to advertise your services.

Ask & Tell
The next tip that I can give you is to simply ask and tell. This option needs some more effort but especially if you are just starting out this is another great way to find clients. So whenever you are out there in your favorite restaurant or bar as an example simply ask them if they need some photos. Or maybe and that is even better check their photos on social media and say “Hey I can help you to get better results”. Sometimes people know that they maybe need some new photos but there isn’t a good opportunity or they can’t find a good photographer that they like. And in this case it is you who offers them a simple solution for that. So actually whenever there is the chance that you can ask someone if they need photos tell them that you can do that for them to increase the chance that they will hire you.

Local Markets / Facebook Posts
But now let’s move on with the next tip and this one is super simpel to do. To find new clients you can simply check groups or online markets where people are actually searching for a photographer. Maybe they are looking for a wedding photographer or product photographer and in this case they simply make a post in these groups. So what you can do is to send them a message offering your service and price and if you are lucky they will hire you. Of course this won’t work every single time but if you actually put in the work and don’t be too picky and pricey you should find some work there.

PreProduction
The next option is actually an option that is a little bit risky because it can happen that you just waste time but in the right situation or setting this might be a great way to earn money. And here I’m talking about PreProduction.

Sometimes a company don’t really know that their photos aren’t the best and in this case you can simply produce a small set of photos and the go to their store and show them your work. And maybe they will notice oh these photos are actually really good maybe we should update our Photo-Library. And in this case you can actually sell these photos plus some additional work if they are interested in that.

But yeah all in all I always recommend to let people know that they can hire you as a photographer. In most cases people simply don’t know that… so it is up to you to spread this message. Build your portfolio, create social media accounts, a website and always have these small business cards in your pocket so people can contact you simple and fast. And of course be patient. If you actually want to earn money with photography you can do it. It’s not impossible but you have to put in the work and be a little bit creative.

Stay Frosty!
